Freestyle Skiing

By Joshua A.

I like freestyle skiing because I like how they push themselves to do things they have never practiced to win. For people who don’t know, freestyle skiing is a skiing discipline comprising aerials, moguls, cross, half-pipe, slopestyle and big air as part of the Winter Olympics. It can consist of a skier performing aerial flips and spins and can include skiers sliding rails and boxes on their skis. The differences between freestyle skiing and free ride is freestyle boards are designed for doing tricks, especially in the terrain park, or anywhere on the mountain. Freeride boards are meant for riding all over the mountain and off-piste, riding powder, dropping cliffs, and so on.

Freestyle skiing is an interesting sport because it pushes the brain to get past being scared and just do what they love. The difference between freestyle skiing and normal skiing is freestyle skiing isn’t just about landing. It’s about challenging yourself to try new things, like an Unnatural Double Cork 1260. This is an actual double cork spin, and not just an unnatural 180 with two flips. They say this is one of the hardest tricks ever. Freestyle skiing is one of the most interesting and complex sports in all of the Winter Olympics because of all the mental aspects and pushing past your limits.
