Height in Sports

By: Alleyah F.

Do you think your height affects your ability to play sports? In my opinion, I do not think that your height affects your ability to play sports entirely, but you just have to have the skills and know how to use your height. Tall people have their advantages and disadvantages as well as short people. Lauren Park-Lane is 5´3 at 21 years old and she plays basketball for Seton Hall. She is the best player on her team as a point guard with 128 assists, 37 3-pointers, and has an average of 19.8 points per game. She is also considered one of the best women’s basketball players in the country as it states in an Asbury Park Press article, “Seton Hall point guard Lauren Park-Lane is one of the best women’s basketball players in the country.”

Lauren Park-Lane is a very energetic, quick, and skilled individual as a 5´3 basketball player. She uses her height to move past others swiftly and the rest is just skill. Sometimes her height can be a disadvantage because it might be hard to guard tall players but there are advantages to everything. I do not think that the height of a player can affect their gameplay, it’s their skills that matter. You can be the tallest player ever but you might not have the best skills. You can be like Lauren Park-Lane and be the shortest player on her team and have skills that balance out her gameplay.
