Barca in the Champions League

By George G.

Since 1991, Barcelona has had five Champions League titles, can they make their 2018-2019 season their sixth? During the 2017 Champions League, Barcelona suffered a heartbreaking loss against AC Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Barcelona conceded three goals, the first goal at the 6th minute and the two others in the second half.  Will Barcelona respond from the loss with a vengeance?

As a club team Barcelona is well known. They won La Liga last year for their 24th time in their team’s history. In all they have won the Copa Del Rey 30 times, which is the record for that tournament. Their reputation as a winning team speaks for itself, as they are always a dangerous competitor in the Champions League. This is evident because they won titles in the years 1991-1992, 2005-2006, 2008-2009, 2010-2011, 2014-2015. These accolades show how they have been a consistent winner throughout the years, and possibly win the Champions League this year.

In addition to their accolades, Barcelona’s transfers and economic decisions have significantly improved their team for this year. Some new promising players that joined FC Barcelona for this upcoming season include Arthur Melo, Clement Lenglet, and Malcom Silva. Arthur Melo is a talented Brazilian midfielder who joined Barcelona at only the age of 21. His best assets are his passing game and quick touches. Clement Lenglet is a French professional footballer who plays as a central defender who recently joined Barcelona after leaving the Spanish club, Sevilla. At only the age of 23, he has made 85 appearances since his debut in 2013 and won the Ligue 2 title in the 2015–16 season. Finally, Malcom Silva, a Brazilian athlete, transferred to Barcelona as an attacking midfielder. He is 21 years of age and was previously playing in France on FC Girondins Bordeaux. Moreover, there is some hope that Mohamed Salah, a top world class player, might be joining Barcelona for the next upcoming season. Salah is currently playing for Liverpool. Tony Bellew, a fan of a rival team Everton, will be thrilled if Salah is to be transferred. He stated, “We’ve got hope Barcelona [will transfer for] Mohamed Salah, mate. I am just praying everyday. [I want] just one of them to come and take him.” The youth of these players are going to help the chances that Barcelona is going to advance the Champions League.

Barcelona not only has talented athletes coming in but they also have experienced players on their roster. Some of the best soccer players in the world like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Gerard Pique currently play for Barcelona. These four talented players all play for their national teams Argentina, Uruguay, and Spain. As we all know, Messi is one of the best players that ever walked on the pitch and played the amazing sport. He started playing for Barcelona when he was only the age of 13. In his time, Messi has scored over 600 goals and his contribution to Barcelona will forever be remembered. Barcelona generates enough publicity to attract the best players from different countries. These top players that play for Barcelona are important to winning the Champions League.

Barcelona is an incredible club that has a bright future in the Champions League. The team’s reputation as one of the best teams in world puts them as one of the favorites of winning the Champions League this year. Their new players are going to play an important role in winning the upcoming Champions League. Their collaboration with the experienced players currently on Barcelona will also give them a better chance of advancing. All these factors contribute to Barcelona’s future success. Are they going to win?
