Eight grammar school campers, residents of Roselle, Linden, Elizabeth, Hillside and North Plainfied, completed the two-week camp session at WoS affiliate Roselle Catholic, directed by Roselle Catholic alums Joe Skrec ’84 and Erin Sisk ’06, from July 6-10 and July 13-17.
A big highlight of the camp session was guest visits by journalists and athletes. The Write on Sports campers were introduced to, interviewed and wrote stories about RC athletic standouts and graduates Tyler Roberson ’13 and Kelley Jane Carvalho ’10. Roberson, The Star-Ledger’s statewide Player of the Year in 2013, when he helped spark the Lions to the Tournament of Champions title, will be a junior and starting forward at Syracuse University in September. Carvalho, who played soccer at RC and Centenary College in Hackettstown, is one of the administrating coordinators for the New York Red Bulls training programs.
