Write on Sports
Eligible students are rising 7th and 8th graders.
We use sports as the theme as a way to connect with students in an authentic and meaningful way. During camp, we turn the students into sports writers to strengthen their writing and literacy skills. Students pick a theme of their choice (related to sports) and identify a project including a feature article or fiction story. They will also work on a multimedia project, either a video or a podcast episode. Another feature of camp is the Guest Days; bringing in professional journalists (from TV, radio and print media outlets) and athletes (ranging from college, professional and retired professionals). We include a sports related field trip.
Montclair State University (MSU) serves as a central location for hosting multiple Write on Sports summer sports writing camp programs. Specifically, the MSU location has partnered with public and private schools in the greater North Jersey area. This location has limited space per session.
Dates: Session One July 8 - 19, 2024
Session Two July 22-August 2, 2024
Session Three July 8-25, Monday - Thursday (No Fridays)
Time: 9am-3pm
Eligibility: Rising 7-8 graders
Tuition: Free, lunch and all supplies are included

Write on Sports works with at-risk middle school students to improve their creative writing skills by tapping into their passion for sports at our writing programs.
Write on Sports (EIN:76-0810290) is a fully audited 501 (c)(3) tax-deductible non-profit organization. Donations are fully deductible. Write on Sports programs are open to all qualifying students, regardless of gender, race, nationality, religion, creed or sexual orientation.
