Summer break sounds amazing, until you are already bored two weeks in… scrolling aimlessly through TikTok and Instagram…for the 1,000th time…and melting in the summer heat. If you are a middle schooler who actually wants to do something really cool, then Write on Sports and Write on Arts NJ Summer Camps are about to change your plans this summer!

If you are obsessed with sports, love the arts, or just want to master your creative writing skills, this camp is for you! This is not a traditional academic summer camp.  At Write on Sports and Write on Arts you will learn legit skills that professionals use in their everyday lives, meet awesome people, and write fun topics, while learning and having fun at the exact same time!

What is Write on Sports and Write on Arts?

With an amazing 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio, Write on Sports and Write on Arts offers a variety of activities that help you gain confidence and work on your critical thinking, writing and multimedia skills. 

You can get the feel of a college campus while learning more about multimedia production. With the summer camps being held at Montclair State University, Monmouth University, Providence College, Goshen College, and Metropolitan State University – Denver, every student can learn what it’s like to work on a college campus before even being a college student.

💡FUN FACT: Write on Sports and Write on Arts partners with school districts to bring programming to them – Newark Public Schools (NJ) and Berkeley Unified School District (CA).

Students will choose between Write on Sports and Write on Arts. Write on Sports is perfect for students who are interested in sports and learning what it takes to become a sports journalist. Write on Arts is for students who are interested in the arts can learn about the skills necessary to become an art critic. 

You can also learn about the different careers that are available in the sports and the arts industries! Each student will learn and expand their writing skills, whether through sports themes or through performance and visual arts.

There are a multitude of additional activities that students will experience at summer camp, as well! Students can learn feature story writing, the creation and production of videos and podcasts, as well as other fun activities! There are also field trips for students to get either sports or arts related experiences. On top of all that, students will be able to meet journalists, athletes and artists and learn the skills it takes to interview them!

What Skills Will You Gain?

In Write on Sports and Write on Arts, you will learn a lot about what types of multimedia and writing go on in the sports and arts industries. However, you are not just writing typical essays that you would in school.

With this camp you can:

    • Write your own feature story – like the stories you read about athletes or celebrities in magazines!
    • Make a video or podcast episode – you will learn how to edit and produce episodes like a pro!
  • Meet and interview real journalists, athletes, and artists!
  • Go on different field trips related to your camp!
  • And (the best of all), lunch is included!
